This work presents osechi, the traditional New Year’s feast, rendered in three-dimensional mizuhiki knots.
Packed into tiered jubako boxes with the wish that good fortune will “layer” and multiply, the first tier contains celebratory dishes (iwai-zakana and kuchitori), the second features grilled and vinegared dishes, and the third is composed of simmered foods.
Through the varied colors and textures of the ingredients, expressed in mizuhiki knots, the work captures the arrangement prepared to welcome the New Year deity and to pray for a year of safety and prosperity.
