Inspired by hana-mifuda—flower-themed sacred talismans distributed at Shinto shrines—this work is a mizuhiki hanging-scroll ornament that allows seasonal flowers to be enjoyed month by month.
A kakejiku is a traditional Japanese scroll mounting designed to be hung for display.
In this series, a different mizuhiki flower is attached each month over the course of a year, expressing the transitions of the seasons.
This piece is a collaboration with Torii Co., Ltd., a long-established Kyoto company founded in 1872 that works with mounting textiles (hyōsō-gire).
